Project Imagine

Project Imagine – Innovations for a made green in Europe

The action is planned to guarantee an effective project management.
The physical means involved for this action, in addition to human resources, encompass the communication tools and the structures used to carry out the meetings between partners.

The activities of this action concerns the general management of the project, with the purpose of verifying the achievement of the targets, the respect of the timetable, the quality of the deliverables and the management of the communication among the partners and between the partners and the various stakeholders involved in the project activities.

This WP encompasses the implementation of the different steps foreseen by the EMAS Regulation to the clusters involved, so to create a common basis for all the individual organisations interested to use collective resources and a cooperative approach to achieve an individual EMAS registration, in each cluster the “EMAS network approach” will be applied. The WP is divided in four tasks:

Task 2.1: “Identification and selection of Clusters, Creation of Promotion Committee”

The initial step of this WP will be to carry out a preliminary assessment of the feasibility and applicability of the proposed methodology in different clusters. A Promotion Committee will be created in each Cluster, in order to define the strategic guidelines for the cluster environmental management.

Task 2.2: “Territorial Analysis, EMAS approach for clusters”

The Promotion Committee will define a Cluster Environmental Policy. The Policy will be the framework for the definition of a Programme for the whole Cluster subscribed by representative local actors. Moreover, the organisational structure and the managerial procedures for the cluster will be defined .

Task 2.3: “Sectoral  Analysis, Support to the Cluster organizations for EMAS registration” Five organisations will be selected for each cluster, in order to verify the usefulness and the effectiveness of the co-operative approach. Moreover, the cluster environmental statement will represent a support for the sample organisations and will be a useful tool for communicating to the most relevant stakeholders of the clusters.

Task 2.4: “APO Recognition for the clusters, EMAS Registration of the organisationsIn this task the   clusters involved will finally reach the Official recognition adopted by the Italian EMAS Committee, and some organisations participants will reach the EMAS registration.

The WP3 is a in-depth activity related to the “indirect” environmental aspects, especially those related to the typical product of the cluster.  The WP is divided in two tasks:

Task 3.1: “LCA of the typical product”-

The product will be analyzed and evaluated with an approach “Life Cycle Thinking” LCT, therefore some LCAs will be carried out, by considering the typical product of the cluster and by identifying the main environmental pressures (direct and indirect) connected to the production, in a supply-chain context. These LCAs will also provide indications on which key-environmental impacts should be considered to develop new EU Ecolabel criteria concerning those product for which they do not already exists.

Task 3.2: “Communication to markets, EPD and sectoral EPD

Tools of communication and marketing will be implemented for the SMEs, for example an EPD (“Environmental Product Declaration”) of the product characterizing the cluster, to transmit to the supply-chain (but also to the other clusters and even to the final consumer) the information and the more important environmental data. Further objective of this task, as seen above, is to contribute to the development of new Ecolabel criteria for the product of the fashion supply-chain (those not already existing today, e.g. purse, belts and other leather accessories).

The WP4 will develop the results of the previous WP, concerning the analysis of the environmental pressures of products and to their traceability. These activities foresee a thorough analysis, in order to reduce the environmental pressures through the development of criteria for sustainable design (EcoDesign), and the provision of some tools in order to improve the sustainable chain management through the “Green Procurement” approach. The WP is divided in two tasks:

Task 4.1 “Definition of sustainable design” tools. Ù

A “Manual of sustainability” (set of rules for the design) will be elaborated, to define the environmental performance and contribute in a real and concrete way to the environmental improvement of the typical product (working on its desired environmental characteristics based on the LCA results).

Task 4.2 ”Green Procurement and Green Supply

We will define and adopt the criteria for the identification of the suppliers, of the productive inputs and of the conditions of provisioning.
