Project Imagine

The IMAGINE project has as its main objective to promote the adoption of voluntary management schemes on the part of SMEs operating in the fashion sector.
In this regard, among the over 100 companies  directly or indirectly involved into the project, the following decided to follow a more precise path to get to the conferral of environmental certification EMAS or ECOLABEL.
Most of these enterprise obtained the validation already or are very close to its achievement.

Tailormade Shoe Factory from five generations produces handmade shoes, directly modeled on the shape of the customer’s foot. The company’s primary goal, in fact, is to base on the historic heritage of craft processes that have made the Italian products so popular all over the world, integrating the know-how and creativity of a time with today research and innovation.
The company has decided to focus on environmental certification EMAS in order to pursue the complete excellence of its products. The validation, which was achieved with the support of the IMAGINE project, further reinforces this business improvement process.

Zabri Tannery, founded in 1971, plays a leading role in the processing of bovine crusts, both in Italy and abroad. Located on one of the main arteries of commercial traffic, between Pisa and Florence, operates on the largest industrial centre for working leather in Tuscany.
The company, already certified ISO 9001, for years has been active on social responsibility and ecological compatibility themes.
Obtaining EMAS, thanks to the support offered by the IMAGINE project, represents another important step towards an eco-sustainable industrial management system and evidenced by the strong commitment of the company to pursue these objectives.

Ausonia s.r.l., part of Ausonia Tanning Group, established as its objective the achieving of an excellence level on product’s performance and environment protection.
The decision of Ausonia s.r.l. fits in the group commitment policy to develop activities compatible with the environment through the adoption of an environmental management system.
It’s firm conviction of Ausonia S.r.l. that the adoption of this system, bringing significant contribution to the protection of the environment, constitutes an opportunity for improvement and growth of its production activities.
The project undertaken by implementing an environmental management system in Ausonia S.r.l. will complete the registration of all holdings of Ausonia group, constituting a cutting-edge modern example in Italian and international leather production.
The commitment of the group is demonstrated by ISO 9001 certification, as a guarantee of quality of products but also by the managerial capacity of the Group, investing in management systems.
Obtaining Emas is the culmination of a long journey (beyond the certification ISO14001: 04) made by other two tanneries of Ausonia group: Nebraska and Arizona.
Ausonia S.r.l. reached certification through the project “Imagine”, co-financed by the Community programme CIP Eco-Innovation and conducted in collaboration with Scuola Superiore di Studi Sant’Anna of Pisa University and the Tanners Association of S.Croce sull’Arno, whose objective is the diffusion of environmental certification tools and instruments of social responsibility into tanning district of Santa Croce sull’Arno, contributing to environmental protection and sustainability of the district territory.
Thanks to this project, the tannery district received the EMAS APO Certification on 12 April 2010.
This statement is therefore an Environmental starting point for developing a transparent collaborative relationship and willingness to act as active subject to a continuous environmental improvement.
